Growing our future

groOrganic "Growing Our Future" School Gardening Program is an effective hands-on program that offers teachers and students the opportunity to work on individual subject areas or across the curriculum in ways that are creative and environmentally compatible. The lessons in the program progress with continuity giving teachers all the information needed for a safe and successful gardening experience. The garden area available can be small or large, in the ground or in containers.

Abstract concepts come alive with groOrganic. Many life skills and virtues can be taught naturally while working hard in the healthful outdoors with others. Teachers and students will experience gardening as an enjoyable means of staying balanced and fit. Everyone will learn about healthy eating habits. Being involved with decision making in the garden will encourage responsibility by giving the students ownership of their environment Awareness and connection to God through creation, the environment, and the world community past, present, and future makes groOrganic rich in benefits. The school garden provides unlimited opportunities for community service and is sustainable development in action.

The groOrganic program includes cross-curricular educational content standards that are fulfilled by implementing the basic gardening curriculum. It is enriched with grade specific activities that can be chosen at the discretion of each teacher. At whatever level of involvement students are exposed to groOrganic, they will benefit.
