Cultivating Organic Lifestyles
Until a few years ago, gardening and farming were activities few urban and suburban students had a chance to experience. Many of us are realizing the necessity of teaching children how to grow organic food. Local students are beginning help raise everything from tomatoes and corn to herbs and spices.
The "gro-ing Our Future" Programs are effective hands-on programs that offer students the opportunity to work on individual subject areas or across the curriculum in ways that are creative and environmentally compatible. The lessons in the program progress with continuity giving students all the information needed for a safe and successful gardening experience. The garden area available can be small or large, in the ground or in containers. Special Raised Planter prices are available for schools. School Garden Maintenance is also available at special monthly and yearly rates.
After School Programs are available as are one day workshops on specific topics such as an introduction to gardening, composting, and nutrition. By taking advantage of these wonderful programs, the garden becomes a natural place of learning and growing. The metaphors it provides are invaluable for children and something that we as humans have experienced for thousands of years. As we are encouraged to have "greener" lifestyles, what better place to begin than with a school garden!
Abstract concepts come alive with groO's School Gardening Programs. Many life skills and virtues can be taught naturally while working hard in the healthful outdoors with others. Students will experience gardening as an enjoyable means of staying balanced and fit. Everyone will learn about healthy eating habits. By teaching kids how to sow seeds, tend plants, and love their vegetables, they will be encouraged to try something that they have tended to with their own hands. Being involved with decision making in the garden will encourage responsibility by giving the students ownership of their environment.
